We have an Excellent Contract position for aTool Engineerto join a leading Company located in theCanoga Park, CAarea.
Pay Rate Range is: $37.74 - $54.33
The Tool Engineer classifications assist in the development and design of a variety of tools and equipment required to support manufacturing, quality, and test operations. These positions perform feasibility analysis of special tool plans; create tool concepts and ensure Tool Designers create tool models and drawings which utilize current environmental health and safety procedures, tool standards manuals, and sound engineering practices; initiate fabrication and assist with inspection and operational checkout of special tools; and resolve tooling problems encountered during tool usage.
Responsibilities :
Level 1:
Performs a variety of tool engineering tasks that are planned to provide experience and familiarization with the manufacturing staff and client programs, methods, and practices
Originates tooling necessary to complete production operations, following production plans
Conceives and sketches preliminary designs and establishes primary tool design criteria
Follows programs or assigned portions through to completion, maintaining constant liaison with manufacturing planning and tool design personnel involved
Provides support to successful tooling operations based upon efficiency, ease, and safety of operations, ease of maintenance, and cost of fabrication
Assists with investigations and resolution of tooling problems on the manufacturing shop floor and observes tool tryouts for design suitability
Develops special tooling necessary for the fabrication, testing, and material handling required to support the production of product lines
Level 2:
Acts in a coordinating capacity between tool design, manufacturing, engineering, and manufacturing shop floor to resolve tool fabrication difficulties
Assists in the establishment of project tooling and equipment requirements
Provides advice on technical details used to develop economical and efficient type and class of project tools in order to produce acceptable parts in compliance with manufacturing specifications and standards
Recommends changes to manufacturing desirements for simplifications or improvement of tool designs
Responsible for successful tooling based on efficiency, ease, and safety of operation, ease of maintenance, and cost of fabrication
Investigates and resolves tooling problems in manufacturing areas
Observes tool tryouts for design suitability and recommend deviations and/or tool design changes
Prepares design and fabrication cost estimates, and schedules of materials and manpower
Assists designers with problem areas and in correcting irregularities
Develops special tooling necessary for the fabrication, testing, and material handling required to support the production of product lines
May assign work to and direct less senior tool engineers and designers as required
May make presentations to small audiences
Interacts with own and related teams
Level 3:
Provides imaginative, thorough, and practical solutions to a wide range of technical problems involving the conventional utilization of tool engineering techniques
Conceives and plans projects involving the development of new methods to attain objectives
Coordinates and contributes to tool design and modification, requiring knowledge of production processes, requirements, design concepts, and materials
Interprets production plans and creates tooling to accomplish contractual or production requirements
Coordinates and clarifies engineering and design standards
Advises on structural requirements (working with Tool Stress Engineer), machine suitability, and methods of fabrication
Works with the Tool Designers on the development of complex machine shop tooling, special tooling for production, inspection tooling, test tooling, and handling equipment
Observes and evaluates major tool tryouts for design suitability and authorizes deviation and/or tool design changes
Follows programs through completion, maintaining liaison with manufacturing, planning, and project engineering
Maintains an interchange of information with tool suppliers regarding optimum fabrication methods, materials, designs, and repairs
Provides technical guidance to less senior tool engineers and designers
Directs tool design and fabrication of special tooling
Presents formal tool and design reviews and may include customer interface
Maintains budget and schedule for assigned project tool string
Provides manpower forecasting for design on assigned project
May include cost account management
Provides technical support and assistance in manufacturing process planning
Provides support to product engineering to attain manufacturability and tooling feasibility
May work closely with strategic suppliers in design and fabrication techniques and tool quality acceptance
Coordinates review and approval of tool drawings and models in accordance with Configuration Management requirements
Basic Hiring Criteria :
Level 1 - Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Level 2 - Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and minimum two (2) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Level 3 - Bachelor's degree in an appropriate discipline and minimum five (5) years of directly related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Desired Qualifications :
Knowledge of:
Pertinent codes, rules, and regulations related to Tooling Engineering
Computer-Aided Design (Creo CAD) and Computer-Aided Manufacture (CAM) methods and techniques (if someone has lots of familiarity with Solidworks, they should be able to adapt to Creo)
Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and tolerance stack principles
Quality control and regulatory processes
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), used to produce reports and spreadsheets
Numerical and manufacturing practices and processes
Statics & Strength of Material Concepts
Manufacturing methods and fabrication processes
Engineering theory and practice relating to the design and evaluation of devices or systems
Safety regulations, principles, and practices of work safety
Engineering economics and budget preparation
Ability to:
Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing
Evaluate tooling requests, develop design requirements, and conceptualize innovative solutions
Select the best method of producing parts, tools, or assemblies
Apply a complete understanding of computer-aided design tools and systems
Build and manipulate CAD data sets
Read and interpret CAD solid models, product drawings, tool drawings, technical drawings, and specifications
Apply and interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Analyze engineering problems and adopt effective solutions
Participate in test planning, execution, and post-test data analysis
Collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data
Use various computer systems to produce reports and spreadsheets
Prepare complete and comprehensive reports
Deal with multiple tasks and deadlines set by management
Perform in a concurrent engineering environment
Operate effectively in a cross-disciplinary team environment
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
